Course Description: Inclusion—A Strategic Approach to CRR
Wednesday, March 25, 2026 - 11:00 am
Course Overview:
Community Risk Reduction (CRR) is only effective if it reaches 100% of your jurisdiction. With approximately 1 in 4 adults living with a disability, traditional "one-size-fits-all" public education often leaves the most vulnerable populations behind. This webinar moves beyond basic compliance, teaching fire service leaders and educators how to use Intentional Design to create accessible safety programs. We will explore how to transition from "kindness" to "strategy" by integrating accessibility directly into your department’s Community Risk Assessment (CRA) and outreach initiatives.
Learning Objectives:
Data-Driven Prioritization: Learn how to utilize Indiana-specific disability statistics to identify high-risk populations and bridge the gap in your Community Risk Assessment.
Tactical Communication & Field Interaction: Master practical on-scene and educational techniques, including the "15-Second Rule," "Lowered-Level Communication," and "Equipment Respect" to ensure safer, more cooperative interactions with neurodivergent or non-verbal citizens.
Inclusive Program Auditing: Step-by-step guidance on auditing your current smoke alarm blitzes, station tours, and school curricula to identify and remove hidden barriers to safety.
Sensory-Friendly Strategy: Learn how to implement "low-sensory" modifications for community events—such as dimmed lights and silent hours—to build trust with families who typically avoid traditional fire service open houses.
Strategic Resource Management: Identify how to leverage local partnerships (e.g., The Arc, vocational centers) to extend your department’s reach and provide specialized safety equipment without increasing your budget.
Who Should Attend:
Fire Chiefs, Public Information Officers (PIOs), Fire and Life Safety Educators (FLSE), and Community Risk Reduction coordinators.
